Internship programme
Fitzpatrick Referrals currently sponsors more residencies, internships and fellowships than any other private practice in Europe, and as part of our commitment to advancing this area of the profession, every year we offer six qualified veterinary surgeons the opportunity to join the practice to complete a 12 month internship.
The internship has an emphasis on diagnosis, surgical management, and post operative care of complex orthopaedic and neurosurgical conditions.
The intern will spend 3/6 of his/her time on surgery rotations, 1/6 on radiology, 1/6 on inpatient management, and 1/6 in a floating role. In addition to case rounds, there is a weekly journal club and intermittent didactic lectures for the interns presented by various specialists. The intern is expected to participate in the teaching of visiting student externs. Daily case rounds ensure that interns have the opportunity to learn from each case he/she sees as well as cases being managed by other surgeons.
The Fitzpatrick Referrals Internship Programme is designed to expose the participant to the complexity of orthopaedics and neurosurgery and to allow the intern to pursue a residency. Fitzpatrick Referrals sponsors several residencies both in the UK and the USA. Eligible candidates have often graduated from internship at Fitzpatrick Referrals.
The practice offers three surgery suites with advanced equipment for orthopaedic surgery including high definition arthroscopy. There are two digital radiology suites, CT scanner, and high field MRI. Full featured anaesthetic monitoring equipment including ECG, pulse oximetry, non-invasive blood pressure, and capnography compliment the surgical theatres. A state of the art kinetic and kinematic laboratory allows objective pre and post operative gait analysis. Physical rehabilitation facilities include a dedicated physiotherapy area and large hydrotherapy suite. An in house diagnostic laboratory and advanced therapeutics are also available to further increase the quality of care to our patients.
Accommodation is provided within 10 minutes drive of the practice and remuneration includes a competitive salary, 4 weeks vacation and 3 days of CPD. Further days may be agreed at the discretion of the Director.
Fitzpatrick Referrals is in Eashing, Surrey, 10min from Guildford and 40min by train to London.
